Episode 25: Visits From Aunt Flo

Episode 0.jpg

We're a quarter of a century! Yayyy Underwire, we've done it. I've heard everything past 25 is downhill/over the hill/whatever.

I can't believe it took us this long to Underwire about Periods. See what I did there? I'm going to make Underwire a verb. And I will make it happen. #ripfetch

Here's what wikipedia had to say about periods:

"Menstruation, also known as a period or monthly,[1] is the regular discharge of blood and mucosal tissue from the inner lining of the uterus through the vagina.[2] The first period usually begins between twelve and fifteen years of age, a point in time known as menarche.[1] However, periods may occasionally start as young as eight years old and still be considered normal.[2]The average age of the first period is generally later in the developing world, and earlier in the developed world.[3] The typical length of time between the first day of one period and the first day of the next is 21 to 45 days in young women, and 21 to 31 days in adults (an average of 28 days).[2][3] Bleeding usually lasts around 2 to 7 days.[2] Menstruation stops occurring after menopause, which usually occurs between 45 and 55 years of age.[4] Periods also stop during pregnancy and typically do not resume during the initial months of breastfeeding."

Thanks free internet encyclopedia. I'm very pleased your wealth of knowledge exists.

So sure ^ is what periods are but that's not it. HELL NO it isn't. We've compiled a stories episode featuring Anne, Peggy, and Kaylee, as well as Queen Angelica from the 3 Thick Girls Podcast, and the amazing angel and friend we miss, Niv as contributors all talking about their rags. Everyone in this episode is under 30. No one in this episode has given birth. No one in this episode has had anything life altering happen to their periods. Just so you know.

In our activism segment we want you to get involved and get some knowledge with ngos working in the period game today. Check out Femme International, Days For Girls, The Wasichana Fund, and the Canadian non-profit, The Period Purse

Periods are a thing. A lot of humans get em. It's not super talked about. So let's go around the room shall we? Enjoy the show!

Have a Happy Healthy Bonnie Bleeding Day!
